Marlon’s Musings #15In Psalm 79:9 we read, “Help us, O God of our salvation… for Your name’s sake!” This single verse reveals a profound truth: God doesn’t rescue us because we deserve it—He saves us for the glory of His name. The story of redemption is consistent from Genesis to the Gospels, and the focus is always on what God is doing and will do for us. Salvation is about God and His character. God clothed Adam and Eve with animal skins after their sin, pointing to the need for a sacrifice. Abraham declared, “God will provide for Himself the lamb.” Jesus, fully aware of His divine origin, authority, mission, and future, humbled Himself to wash His disciples’ feet—teaching us that true confidence in Christ leads to humble service, not pride.
Our own efforts (like fig leaves) can never cover our shame. Only Christ’s atoning sacrifice does. And for those of us already in Him, the “dusty feet” of daily life remind us to return regularly for His cleansing grace—especially in moments like Communion and foot-washing services.
