Have you heard of Monk Mode? “It’s a concept that has gained popularity, especially among productivity enthusiasts and self-improvement circles. This idea is inspired by monks' disciplined and minimalist lifestyle, focusing on deep work, self-reflection, and personal growth.” (Jim Kroft)

For years now, I delete all my social media apps from my phone in January. I do not delete my accounts; I just take a break from social media for one month to spend more time on other things, primarily reading, reflecting, journaling, and planning. I had never referred ot this as Monk Mode before, but once I familiarized myself with the concept, it seemed to fit, to a degree. As much as disappearing for a month sounds interesting and even inviting, I have not reached a stage of my life where I am ready to make that sacrifice, but I am already experiencing the benefits of not having any social media apps on my phone.

Do you think your life would benefit from a month-long break from social media?

I had the privilege of preaching at the Brandon Seventh-day Adventist Church while on vacation, visiting my family in Florida.

Reflecting on solitude and disconnecting from social media in order to better connect with God, those around me, and even my own thoughts, I am reminded of the story of Elijah. In my blog post, The Depressed Prophet, I explore Elijah's running away and, after a month of solitude, hearing God’s still, small voice and receiving the revelation of the next phase of his ministry.

There is something to be said about silence and its role in helping us gain clarity and better hear God’s still, small voice.
