What if the Sabbath isn’t mainly about rest… but about relationship?

Long before sin, long before the Ten Commandments, even before Adam and Eve needed to recover from a long week, God set apart the seventh day, blessed it, and made it holy. Why? He wasn’t tired. They weren’t tired. There was no brokenness to redeem yet.

The answer is breathtaking: the crown of creation wasn’t humanity—it was holy time with humanity. The Sabbath reveals that from the very beginning, God’s deepest desire has been to be with us.

In this message, we trace the heartbeat of “Immanuel—God with us” from the first Sabbath in Eden all the way to the manger in Bethlehem, and discover why the seventh day is still the weekly reminder that you are loved, valued, and invited into the presence of your Creator.

My family and I went ice-skating recently. It has been a while since I skated, but I still remember the basics. I know how to get going, but stopping… well, that’s always an adventure.

Thought

The seventh day of creation reveals God’s personhood; He is not just emotionless cosmic energy. The fact that creation did not end on the sixth day with the creation of humans but on the seventh day reveals that the ultimate end of the creation week was the joy of spending quality time with someone.

I have always been distrustful of AI chatbots, and I found this short article from Johns Hopkins University worthwhile. It turns out that when you ask AI, you don’t get an unbiased answer.

Our church hosts a ministry called Special Stars. It provides an opportunity for those who have special needs to participate and take center stage in telling the story of the birth of Jesus. This heartwarming ministry has been a great blessing for our church and local community. You can watch the special stars’ live performance here.
